Being in "the country" doesn't mean you automatically must do without state-of-the-art medical services. Memorial Hospital is a key community facility. Its original North Conway building, constructed in 1911, currently houses the administrative and doctor's offices. What is now the hospital was built in 1976, next to and connected with the original, and contains 35 licensed Acute Care beds - 25 Medical/Surgical, 4 Intensive Care and 6 Maternity - equipped with lots of state-of-the-art equipment and up-to-date comforts, down to personal color TVs. In 1992, another part of the complex was completed, The Merriman House with 45 licensed Nursing Home beds. A further addition opened in 1997. Memorial Hospital is set up to meet the health care needs of 90% of the community population. The remaining 10% can find the facilities they require not far away at Maine Medical Center in Portland or in the nation's health center, Boston, with its Mass. General, Dana Farber, Beth Israel, etc.
Mineral Springs Care and Rehabilitation for North Conway opened in 1988 as Clipper Home. This attractive and well-kept facility, built on a shoulder of Pine Hill overlooking North Conway, provides Skilled Nursing as well as Assisted Living (18 persons) and Nursing Home Care (79 persons).
