North Conway is once again a Top 5 Adventure Town destination! No one had to tell us locals that, but we sure are glad USA Today voters agree! From hiking and biking to floating, boating, fishing, camping, and so much more, North Conway is an adventurer’s dream.
According to USA Today: “Set amid the sprawling White Mountain National Forest, North Conway offers visitors access to Mount Washington (the tallest peak in the northeast) and the accompanying four seasons recreation. During the snowy months, the area boasts some of the region’s best skiing and snowmobiling, while summer is excellent for hiking, golfing, fishing and camping. Fall leaf peeping is some of the best in the country.”
North Conway is a playground during all four seasons. Winter is filled with skiing, whether at one of the many local mountains in the MWV or on the cross-country trails lacing through the backcountry. Some people have a need for speed and fill it by whizzing along on snowmobiles. Children love sledding and tubing, especially on the purpose-built hills at some of the ski mountains near town. Winter wouldn’t be complete without a dreamy horse-drawn sleigh ride through the winter wonderland we call home.
Spring, although the rainy season, is a breath of warm fresh air after a long winter. Hiking is made magical by glimpses of green peeping from beneath the melting snow (but remember your microspikes, it’s still pretty icy in spots and nothing hurts more than a slip onto the ice, cushioned only by your dignity and pride). Finally, we get to turn the clocks forward, gaining that precious hour of daylight back so we can start enjoying evenings outside again.
Summer is finally vacation season. The Saco River is finally starting to run warmly, after the icy spring snowmelt. The mountains are filled with hikers, bikers, and campers, all ready to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life into the wild calm of the White Mountain National Forest. North Conway Village is full of visitors, eager for souvenirs of their trip to one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Fall is what New Hampshire is known for. The leaves explode in a riot of color, and visitors come to leaf peep in droves. Scenic drives on winding backcountry roads are a timeless trip, meandering through the red, yellow, and orange leaves carpeting the ground. Farms are full of families picking apples and pumpkins while children wander through the corn mazes. Cool mornings and nights make for great camping and hiking weather, and nothing beats a leisurely paddle through the colorful reflections of the trees on the water.
